I thought i was going to be billed one time

I got to looking and I am actually going to be billed every month at a higher amount than what I paid! I do not want that! please cancel my account now. 9-9-2014. I also do not like my credit card being used that often. I tried to remove the program myself and I could not. not only do I want to cancel my account I also want the program removed from my computer! I was deliberately tricked in buying the program. I was purposely made to believe that I had to pay $4.95 as a one time deal. also for security reasons I want it canceled. thank you.

They Think They are a Legitimate Company

After going through the previously mention scam involving the web site that signs you up whether you want it or not and charging you after cancelling I received an e-mail asking me to do a survey on their customer service. Their actions indicate that they are under the illusion that they are a real company providing an product of value and they have a service that can be made better by customer feedback. Intelius is not just crooked, they are insane. Their product has no value, it is just junk information that a kindergartner could research off the internet.

Profile inaccurate

Check my profile and found myself listed in wrong town with deceased relative still being shown. Relative died two years ago and I moved a year ago and public records were all updated after my move. Notified Intellius and they said they have no control over public records. Said fix was to opt out of Intellius. They don't fix their problems and should not be relied upon. When you point out a discrepancy in a sites record pertaining to your records I would assume that they would check out the information you give them; instead they say it is not their responsibility and the only fix would be for me to submit personal information to them so they can block my information from their site. How is it that they know that the personal information that I am submitting is correct if their information pertaining to myself is incorrect?

You can't even take what your next door neighbor tells you for gospel, even if they claim to have seen it with their own eyes; you probably never watched or read Ellery Queen.

Beyond that, Intelius and other internet opportunists only drag public records for what's there. If that data is incorrect or incomplete, or if someone lied when that information was recorded, then that's all you're going to get from them. These guys don't provide a professional level of investigation; if you want more than even you yourself could probably uncover if you had the time and persistence, then you really do need to hire a detective.

INTELIUS ARE THIEVES!

I got a email from Intellius telling me there were things posted about me that would shock me. I paid $1.99 for my report Nothing iincriminating but a lot of wrong iinfo. Then my credit card charged $99.00. After calling them every name under the sun they offered me a 50.00 refund. Keep the money because this is only one of many many reviews about this thieving, lying company I will write. They said I did not read the fine print. I was pissed that they just took me for $1.99. LOST my internet connection because of my lousy cable provider AT&T.There was a pending charge which I asked my bank to dispute 6 days later when I got internet back they had put the $99.00 charge through.

Sounds similar to what I just experienced with instant checkmate.com. I called them, said they could not give me a refund, I talked to my credit card company and then I called them back, and they offered me a 50% refund.

When I demanded to speak to a manager, they said they would issue a 100% refund, but I do not trust them. I will be logging into my credit card website every other day to see if any charges come up.

These bastards are a bunch of crooks.

At some point I might have run a background check using this service and they have been charging me $20/month since then. The description of the service is super vague and have been mistaken the monthly charge on my credit card for a different recurring monthly charge. They have now charged me hundreds of dollars for running a single background check. Someone should be doing a background check on this company and shutting it down. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text. filler text.

You "might" have used the service? You're not sure if you even used it?

Next, you allow them to charge you "hundreds of dollars" which means the billing was going on for nearly a year minimum.

$20 a month and it takes you nearly a year to figure it out. "Super vague" description on the CC statement...that's a good one!

People like you should be given an allowance of $10 a week in cash and be kept far away from any banking situations involving paying bills, using checking accounts, debit cards and credit cards.

Intelius - Background Check Review from Panorama City, California

When I checked on a friend, nothing came up. So I wondered if it was like that for myself. When I saw my relatives were unknown to me, except an ex husband and that I never lived in NM. I wanted to make efforts to fix this immediately. This happened within the past year or two. The horror is that this may be why I have lost or not obtained employment. People do searches to see if accurate information is given! How can this be happening? How can I fix the information. Obviously, my name helped some people to get credit. Intellius isn't a reliable source for a background check, if the initial information is wrong.

Paid to check myself out on Intelius their service is inprecise and a scam

I was searching for a friend of my who left town very suddenly and people have heard from his mom who says he is alive but that she doesn't know where he is, anyway I decided to search for myself and pay the 7$ to see what these people would turn up about me the extra 3$ covered email and social network searches. What a joke it was they had dead relatives listed in my account addresses that my grandfather stays at in Florida (He is a snow bird) and they have my date of birth off by 15 years so it is very inaccurate the extra searches where just 65 results of social networks and the email searches where even worse this is a total scam.

My New Neighbors Think I Am a Phony Thanks to Intelius

I am new to a small rural hamlet and purchased a home neighboring the local church. The elders thought it wise to run a background check. Then, at the picnic, approached me to casually ask 'Where are you from? What is your line of work? Where did you attend college?' I answered truthfully but was queried further about locations where I had lived and schools I attended. Then I was shunned. Last week I ran an Intelius BG check and discovered that I am not who I think I am at all. I am a Pennsylvania Maintenance worker. These people have got to be held accountable. This is a travesty.

Selling Information about dead people.

Intelius is selling information about dead people, people who have been dead for 15 years not just recently deceased. The information is also not correct. Addresses, education, jobs and phone numbers are incorrect. When trying to correct this information since the person I am telling you about is my son, they will not let me correct the information and they will not delete the account on him. As a consequence, I am now again receiving phone calls for my son who never lived in my home in the state where I now live, phone calls to collect debts that these people did not file at the time of his death when his estate was being settled. Even my own information is not correct such as gender or phone numbers.

Sneaky Ripoff!! Should NOT be in business!

I was looking over my bank statement and noticed a charge of $49.95 from INT'US Search SE followed by a number. I called the number and had to speak to some Indian I could barely understand told me back in August I had did a search for somebody. While that is true, I did search for an old friend's number, I ONLY agreed to the one time 99 cent charge to obtain this number. Which by the way, after I paid the 99 cents, they didnt provide a number anyway. I didnt care because it was only 99 cents. The woman told me they had charged me TWICE for $49.95 for their "quarterly fee!" She stated they'd be canceling my "membership". I NEVER authorized these charges and NEVER even agreed to sign up for their *** service! There was no warning I'd be signing up for their service or membership, it was no where in the fine print and I never received any confirmation that I had supposedly signed up! I looked at my bank statement again going back to August and indeed there was another $49.95 charge and also a $25 charge from them for who know's what. So in total they ripped me off $124.90! I cant believe how many complaints I have found from folks in the same situation, and worse yet, I cant believe these people are still in business!!! I will be contacting my bank first thing tomorrow to dispute these charges!

Welp. Me again.

So I called my bank this morning. Bad news part 1: They said they could only dispute the recent charge and anything back 90 days. Therefore the charges from August are too far back and they cant do anything about them! #2 The woman at the card center did "research" into the site and said that its in the fine print of their terms and conditions that you agree to automatically sign up for a "membership," so that legally they have no grounds to dispute any charges and that what they are doing is perfectly legal!!!

And she said that I would have had to call and cancel at some point before noticing the charges, and that just because there are a lot of bad reviews doesnt mean they arent a legitimate company!!! Pretty hard to do when I was being charged without my knowledge! I looked over their terms just now and do not see anything stating that if you use any of their fake services that you agree to be signed up to anything! And I dont care if it is!!

Its still deceptive and no way to do business! When I googled the guys name I wanted a number for, it led me to the site and asked for 95 cents to obtain his number. I was never prompted to accept or decline any membership and it was never clearly stated! DECEPTIVE!

Well I called Intelius back and complained and they guy agreed to issue a refund within 5-7 days. I better see it!

In the meantime I am getting a new bank card, so should they decide to continue charging me they wont get anymore money! Im reporting this to the BBB now!

Tina chastain

Hi, my name is Tina Chastain. I am very sorry to randomly contact you, when you don't know me. I saw your complaint about INTELLIUS, I couldn't help but try to contact to ask you if you have had any luck with a people finding search site or company, etc. I have gotten ripped off by a detective here in my town for $350.00. And, 39.95 went to another online site, plus 19.95 to yet another, and 6.95. and 4.95, and 1.95 twice, and so on and so on. WHAT A RIP! I'm SO disheartened and disgusted. But, I hate to give up. I have been sitting on it for about a year now, just thinking about it, and endlessly searching online, over and over, again. Besides being very sad that I cannot find my long lost friend, I am disgusted with the whole process. But, I have lost contact with a very good friend. His name is STANLEY ADKISSON. He is 51 or 52, now. We met a long while back while both in I.C.U after an accident. We became fast friends and promised always to keep in touch. I am very hurt now, that I cannot keep my promise. I would just love to know that he is fine and doing good for himself. Anyway, I just couldn't help contacting you to ask if you had ANY advice, or if in your quest and with your bad experience..and, if anything GOOD every came of it? If, there is anything you could recommend me, or a direction you could point me in, I would SOOO appreciate it, and be greatly indebted to you! Thank you very, very much, Sincerely, Tina Chastain Tinachastain22@***.com..... 770-500-****

Original review posted by user Sep 25, 2013
I recently Opted-Out my name from the the Intelius people search website. When checking their site after searching my name, they had wrong addresses, wrong relatives associated with my name. I submitted the needed information to Opt-Out and it appeared that they took down this misinformation. Now after checking their website a month later, I noticed that there is an individual with the same "first" and "last" name as me, but different middle name, different age, different gender, that is having several of my addresses and relatives being associated to their Intelius profile. This other person lives in states that I have never lived in, has a completely different middle name, has a different DOB, different gender, has different named relatives, and entirely different addresses than me - but is having some of my information aggregated in with theirs. This is a dangerous thing and should be illegal. Publicly available information does not mean randomly aggregating different people's data into one wrong profile. An on line people search company or data broker that is posting wrong data or aggregating wrong data about someone needs to be held legally accountable. The bottom line is - Intelius is not a reliable data source or aggregator of data. I my case, they did not follow instructions when errors were brought to their attention, have been incompetent, negligent, and have actually made things worse for me. I forgot to mention that in the past I have had to Opt-Out several times before from Intelius and they did not correctly remove data. I am so angry at these people that I am contacting a privacy attorney (law firm) to see what options are available. I am hoping that the Federal and State internet-privacy laws soon change to give the consumer more power to leverage against companies like Intelius. Consumers should have the right to stop or correct wrong information from being disseminated whether it be from an online people search company or the actual data broker source. Hopefully more people that have similar bad experiences with Intelius voice their concerns or complaints to the FTC.

To Intelius Customer Support,

The problem is that every time we contact your customer service, nothing gets resolved. It seems as though Intelius avoids correcting customer/consumer problems when the consumer is at no fault. Instead, Intelius always seems to give some useless canned answer rather than fixing the problem or providing a real solution.

After reading many complaints on this board and all over the Internet, you would think that the Intelius management would be concerned with their company image. The time is coming when all of hassles that customers/consumers are having with Intelius are going to met with the strong arm of the FTC, the Justice Department, and other courts.
