Intilius just tried to rip me off. They charge your credit card without asking.

I wanted to look up my cousin who I have not seen since 1984. I looked very hard online and every time Intilious showed up. They advertised .95 and they will give you information to who you are searching for. I contacted Intilious and only authorized .95 for a phone number. Next thing I noticed, they charged my card for $19.95 for their *** membership which was not told or shown to me. I contacted the customer service and after talking wit hsomeone who is not from the USA with terrible spoken english had no answer but assured me that it will be returned to me in 3-5 days. THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN!!!!!

We apologize for any confusion arising from the use of our service and would like the opportunity to assist you.

Intelius offers a variety of promotions during the checkout process. It sounds like the Identity Protection Membership was activated through the acceptance of discounted pricing for the report. The discounted price selection describes the activation of the Identity Protection Membership, which is initially a seven day free trial. All of our services are non-contractual so there is no obligation to continue using the service.

If you still need assistance with your account, please visit the contact us page on the Intelius website for a variety of options to contact Customer Support.

Intelius is a big scam

Updated by user Jan 13, 2012

After filing my complaint here, and reminding Intelius that they stated they would only charge me IF they provided information in their report, Intelius changed their mind and stated they will refund my money.

Original review Jan 13, 2012
Intelius stated they had information, took my money, then failed to provide the information they advertised they could provide.. I was dissatisfied with their service and requested a refund. While they admitted they couldn't find any information for the phone number I gave them, they still refused to refund my $4.99USD. They apologized for any inconvenience, then offered a "free" credit report. That is a joke, as I'm legally entitled to a free credit report every year, from each reporting agency! I started my search on a website called VerifyPhone.com, but that was a front for Intelius.

Check yourself on Intelius

Updated by user Jan 10, 2012

And for the record, should Intelius wish to dispute this, this information pops up initially on ZabaSearch. But if the \"More info on\" link is hit, it comes up as Intelius.

ZabaSearch is a useless trash dumpster. Intelius apparently feels just fine within that dumpster.

Original review Jan 10, 2012
before you believe what they say about others. I have lived at two of the addresses they list me at during the past thirty-five years in my State. I have never even visted the other ten cities, let alone addresses, where they show me as "living." In discussion with their representative, it was claimed that the information can come from media, court, and other rigmarole -- but they provide nothing to verify from where, or from whom, they receive their information. False information is being posted on their search engine. And, it is something that really needs to be investigated.

DOUBLE BILLED CREDIT CARD

Stay away from this company. Once you enter your email and credit card information even if you purchase one service which is available, they automatically start billing your credit card for a monthly service. Stay away from this company their services are not even through and their are lots of other companies that don't do this practice. The credit card company verified that they get a lot of complaints and denied charges from this account. When I called to have the charges removed they were indignant and even stated that "when you entered your email, for the one-time service you inadvertantly signed up". You enter your email becuase it is requested to get a receipt. Which is a complete admission that they set their web-site up to be deceptive.

INTELLIUS IS A MAJOR SCAM!!

What was to be a $2.50 name lookup turned into $150. in charges. They hit my card 4 times in one day and multiple times after. Customer service does not exist. I encourage anyone who has been ripped off by these people to be pro-active and use every social media means to shut them down. Its obvious by the PR on the internet that they make enough money not to care, but its now up to the PISSED OFF consumer to put the truth out there. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING - FALSE BUSINESS PRACTICES AND BAD SERVICE UNDER THE PRETENSE OF A LEGITIMATE COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was foolish enough to be ripped off by these fiends on 2 separate credit cards.

I was reimbursed for most of the money through the credit card companies.

How do these thieves keep getting away with this?

Today is 5/10/12---I get a feeling that we'll be reading of more complaints about intellius for years to come.

Looking back, I see that this has been going on for quite some time already.

Where ae the lawyers out there?

These crooks need to be stopped!!!

If you select a promotional price on the Intelius website, you will also receive a free 7 day trial of Identity Protect. After the 7 day trial, it will convert to a regular subscription and bill out at $19.95 monthly.

However, there’s no obligation. If you determine within the 7 day trial that you no longer want Identity Protect, you can cancel your service anytime, online or over the phone with a customer support representative.

It sounds like you have also accepted the People Search offer that is advertised on the Intelius website after the purchase process.

I've been robbed by Intellus

I better not get charged. I tried to look a 44 year old friend and it kept giving me info on a completely different person who was 85. Never use them again. What crooks! I hope I have some recourse. I will contest it with my credit card company and hopefully they will resolve the problem. This is highway robbery and I won't stand for it. They should be removed from the internet and it should be a federal crime to take advantage of trusting soles. I plan to pursue this criminal act and will not put up with their scam!

They signed me for a bogus subscription

I did the 1.95 search and then recieving my bank statement looking for something else I notice that Intelluis had been charging me 19.95 for the last four month and the customer service was adamant that I submitted my email address to the request which supposingly confirms that I want a monthly subsciption and I told her that was crazy and we went back and forth for a coupla minutes but being in this situation before (scams) all you have to do is ask for the supervisor (which they will try to talk you out of, but insist) and the supervisor was very accomadating right off the break. He was apologetic andd told me that the Cust. Rep did not had the authority to return anything beyond 30 days and that he will be crediting my account within 7 to 10 business days and gave me a confirmation number along with his name and ID number. Now I have up to ten business days to see the 79.80 back on my account.

I would think that if they continue to take out your money one should wait til they refund your money and then cancel that credit card and get a new one so they can't keep charging you on the original one you gave them.

DANDAMAN K

yes, i waited 7 to 10) business days for my account to reflect the refund, and when i went in to check it, THEY HAD REFUNDED MY MONEY AND THEN THE NEXT DAY THEY SUCKED IT RIGHT BACK OUT AGAIN.THESE PEOPLE ARE SHAMELESS AND DESERVE TO HAVE THE LIFE SUED OUT OF THEM!

Intelius does not give you the information you pay for. It's a rip off!

I did a reverse phone number search and it would not pull up the name or address but it gave me a map of the area where the phone was billed. Intelius said it could guarantee the information (a name and address)to me or there would not be a charge. I was charges $4.95 and received nothing but the same information. All I got was the county where the phone was billed. No name! No address! When you do a search be careful because Intelius uses different web site names to throw you off that they are the actual company.

beware, they will tag on a 19.95 charge for a subscription to your account too. i just contacted the BBB about this practice and demanded my money back.

had the same issue as you, though the info i got was not right at all for the number i looked up.

demanded my money back for both and have heard nothing back. so the BBB will have to take care of it for me.

Intelius is terrible

I did a reverse lookup for a phone number that was harassing me with text messages. It returned with an 87 year old woman living in Florida. Im 99.99% sure its not her texting me little messages. They also trick you into buying additional features without you realizing it. Customer support said they can not do anything to help. Its basically the same thing if you search the phone number on an internet browser, except it wont cost you anything to search on the internet! Dont use Intelius. In my opinion, its a scam, it seduces you into thinking they have information, but it just searches the web, which you can do for free!

Intellius_Customer_Support: Don't take this personally but why don't you do your JOB and refund the money I didn't consent to have taken from me as I've asked and as Intelius agreed to do more than a week ago? If Intelius was a good, reputable company there wouldn't be so many complaints on PissedConsumer, so you can stop trying to use nice words to appease these consumers. Do what a legit business would do, stop stealing money and start refunding it when you do.

Intelius bad practice to lure you without your knowledge.

Someone called me w/o leaving a message, so I checked with reverse phone white pages to retrieve the name of person who called. Intelius charged me 99cents to find out who it is. 2 names with addressess came out of the search. However, the next thing I know, my credit card has been charged $19.95 a month for supplying for more searches. Of course, I tried to call but it is not their office hours. I finally spoke to someone who is very nippy & rude to cancel my "subscription". So do not use intelius please. Do not give your credit card number.

Rip off scam. DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER for ANYTHING.

They will make UNAUTHORIZED charges against your account.

It wasn't until I mentioned the Better Business Bureau that the Call Center guy from around the world decided to give me my money back. CROOKS.

They want me to fax a photo ID to get my credit card information off of their site. This is by far the worst experience I have had with an online service!!!!! I will tell everyone I know DO OT USE THIS SERVICE ITS BULLCRAP!!!!!!

Intelius SCAM - UnAuthorized Charges!

In January of 2011, I signed up with Intelius to look up a phone number for me for the fee of $0.99. I understood that with it, I would have to sign up for a free trial membership with the company but could cancel prior to free trial ending. I found the service to not be helpful but figured that for $0.99, there's not much I could really expect. Shortly after, I canceled the membership that I was OBLIGATED to sign up for. I just realized today that I had still been charged $19.95 ever since then. I should have reviewed all the charges on my statement sooner but I've never experienced this type of unethical practice before. When I contacted Itelius about these unauthorized charges, they stated that I didn't completely cancel my account as I was misled to believe. Intelius purposely manipulates customers by signing them up for TWO memberships. So while I assumed I canceled my account with them, they happily charged me for something I did not want or ask for. I am outraged that they are able to continue to cheat people out of their hard earned money. I spoke with Manual and then his supervisor Kim (#8738) and while they repeated their scripted apology, stated that they could only give me a refund for three months. They know that they are wrong but are only willing to resolve 30% of their crimes

Intelius is a scam

I signed up for 19.95 for a one time service. They charged me over $400. I called their tech support, and they did not tell me that I was signed up for 19.95 twice for indefinitely! I kept seeing this charge on my visa (19.95 twice), I figured they would be reputable and see I only used their service for one transaction and reimbursement for the overcharge. They saw I only used their service once but the still billed me over $400. Watch out for the their sneaky popups that automatically sign you up for continuous billing. Protest them by not using their service (what they provided you can find out free on the internet). Scam!

Strange Email from Intelius

My sister wrote to Intelius to ask some questions about signing up. She got a response from them on how to go on their website and which links to click on. But, the website they gave my sister was www.xxx.com . That is a *** website. My sister and I both called them to complain and I forwarded the email to them and I just received a "sorry we inconvenienced you" response. After reading all the complaints on this website and on the BBB website and seeing the email they sent to my sister, I advised her not to sign up with them.

Don't use Intellius

This service is a rip off and they add on all kinds of charges that you don't even want. When you go and try to change plans, their links do not work. When you buy a phone number reverse search it says they have the number and then they don't send it to you (24 -72 hrs). This is the worst money I have EVER spent. They are truly a rip off and as you click through, I think no matter if you say that you want the service or not they add it on. Save your money.
